1926-1927
The first student scientific groups started forming at the Medical Faculty of Nizhny Novgorod State University:
  • at the Clinical Unit of Skin and Venereal Diseasesю The group was led by Professor I.A. Levin, Head of the Department. The number of group members reached 32.
  • at the Professional Hygiene Department. The leader was Professor L.B. Granovsky. The number of group members was 26.
1932
Members of the Surgical Group of the Nizhny Novgorod Medical Institute joined the regional Scientific Society of Surgeons founded in 1932 by Professor V.I. Iost.
1936
At the end of October, members of student scientific groups gathered in the auditorium of Hospital TherapyDepartment, which was located on the territory of the Regional Clinical Hospital named after N.A. Semashko, for its first coordination meeting. The Council of the Scientific Student Society (SSS) was elected. The leader and organizer of the first student scientific group, and then the SSS, was Professor Kh.I. Garkavi. The deans – Professors M.P. Batunin, I.M. Rybakov and F.D. Agafonov – offered him substantial help.
1937
Gorky Regional Scientific Medical Conference for Young Scientists was held (January 17-21). Future famous Russian medical scientists presented their papers:
  • Kozhevnikov Anatoly Ilyich, Assistant Scientific Officer (Head of General Surgery Department of S.M. Kirov State Medical Institute (1956-1975; the department was named after him), M.D., Professor, Honoured Scientist of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic);
  • Kochergin Ivan Georgievich, Assistant Scientific Officer (Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences, M.D., Professor, Rector of the State Medical Institute (1937-1940)
  • Sinitsyn Nikolai Petrovich, Assistant Scientific Officer (Head of Pharmacology Department of S.M. Kirov State Medical Institute (1937-1972), M.D., Professor, Honoured Scientist of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic);
  • Anfimov Boris Nikolaevich, Assistant Scientific Officer (Head of Normal Anatomy Department of S.M. Kirov State Medical Institute (1956-1963), Candidate of Medicine, Associate Professor);
  • Barmina Olga Nikolaevna, PhD student (Head of Biochemistry Department of S.M. Kirov State Medical Institute (1961-1968), M.D., Professor);
  • Blokhin Nikolai Nikolaevich, intern (Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, Hero of Socialist Labor, President of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences, Rector of Kirov State Medical Institute (1951-1952), Head of General Surgery Department (1950-1952), M.D., Professor. Founder and first Director of the All-Union Oncological Research Center (now N.N. Blokhin National Medical Research Center of Oncologyof the Ministry of Health of Russia);
  • Dikova Antonina Alekseevna, intern (Vice-Rector for Research, Head of the Department of Pediatric Surgery at S.M. Kirov State Medical Institute (1962-1982), Doctor of Medicine, Professor, Honoured Scientist of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic);
  • Dr Chastikov Arkady Fedorovich (Assistant Scientific Officer to Hospital Therapy Department of S.M. Kirov State Medical Institute (1937-1941), Candidate of Medicine);
  • Dr Nikolay Nikolayevich Mizinov (Rector of S.M. Kirov State Medical Institute in 1952-1960), Head of the Department of Military Medical Training (1945-1958), Candidate of Medicine, Colonel of Medical Service);
  • Dr E.N. Gorkin (Head of the Department of Children's Infections (1950-1952) and Infectious Diseases (1953-1961), S.M. Kirov State Medical Institute, Candidate of Medicine, Associate Professor.
1941
There were 18 scientific groups with 380 students at the Medical Institute. They completed 168 research projects.
1942
The first Student Scientific Conference was held.
1944
Since that year, it has become a tradition to hold concluding Student Scientific Conferences attended by students from other medical universities in the country.
1945
There were 15 scientific groups with 326 students at the Medical Institute.They completed 144 research projects.
1956
40 scientific groups have already been formed at S.M. Kirov State Medical Institute. The number of group members was 580. They completed 301 projects.
1964
The All-Russian Student Scientific Conference on cardiovascular pathology was held at S.M. Kirov State Medical Institutewith 121 reports heard, 20 whereof were made by the group members of our university.
1966
There were 38 scientific groups with 780 students at the Medical Institute. They completed 346 research projects.
During the same year, at the XXIII concluding conference of the SSS, 24 projects were awarded prizes, including:
  • first prize - 7 reports,
  • second prize - 8 reports, and
  • third prize - 9 reports.
1980
In view of the 60th anniversary of S.M. Kirov State Medical Institute (1920-1980), a medal for the best student scientific project was instituted. It was awarded by the Council for Scientific Research Projects upon recommendation of the Council of the SSS, the Komsomol Committee and the Trade Union Committee to projects from among those that were awarded the first prizes at the concluding student scientific conferences of the Institute.
It was planned to award 12 medals annually: five for clinical and experimental work, and two for social science work.
The medal and the award certificate were presented at the meetings of the Academic Council of the Institute.
In 1980, 52 student scientific circles with 1400 students functioned at the Institute.
2000
A conference for young scientists from the Volga Region and the North Caucasus was held at the Academy.
2005
Under the leadership of the university administration and the Research Department, the Department of Pediatric Surgery, with the Russian Association of Pediatric Surgeons participating, hosted and held the All-Russian Symposium on Pediatric Coloproctology and the 12th All-Russian Student Scientific Conference on relevant issues of pediatric surgery, traumatology, anesthesiology and emergency medicine. The Pediatric Surgery group of Nizhny Novgorod State Medical Academy won the 1st prize. As a result of the conference, 2 collections of research papers were publishedas a follow-up to the conference.
2006
Scholarships named after academicians N.N. Blokhin and N.N. Trapeznikov are founded for young scientists at Nizhny Novgorod State Medical Academy.
Throughout the 80-year history of the PRMU Student Scientific Society, five research areas (therapeutic, surgical, pediatric, dental, and fundamental sciences) have been developed that form a basis for 27 student groups conducting research.
2020
An integrated Scientific Society for Young Scientists and Students (NOMUS) has been created at PRMU.
